Liposuction

What is Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves removing accumulated fat tissue in specific areas of the body using a special vacuum or injectors, thereby eliminating it from the body. This operation is not strictly a weight-loss surgery but rather a body contouring procedure. Liposuction can not only remove stubborn fat tissue resistant to diet and exercise but also reduce the number of existing fat cells.

This surgical intervention targets localized fat accumulations, especially in areas like the waist, abdomen, hips, thighs, inner knees, and upper arms. The goal of liposuction is to shape and contour the body, highlighting its natural lines. As such, it often aligns with aesthetic goals that vary based on an individual's genetic makeup and body type.

Are You Suitable for the Surgery?

Liposuction is not intended for weight loss but rather for individuals who desire slimming in specific areas. Typically, individuals who are at a normal weight but have localized fat accumulation can achieve the desired positive results from liposuction.

Surgical Technique

Liposuction surgery is an effective method for correcting stubborn fat accumulation areas. In this procedure, the fatty area is first inflated with a special fluid injection. Then, several incisions of a few millimeters in length are made in or near this area. Through these incisions, metal tubes called cannulas, ranging from 2-6 mm in diameter depending on the patient's condition, are inserted into the subcutaneous layer and connected to a vacuum device via transparent hoses.

When the vacuum device is activated, the cannulas move at an appropriate depth in the fat accumulation areas, starting the process of removing excess fat. The suction of fat continues until the desired body contour and smooth skin surface are achieved. In recent years, the use of ultrasound energy has also become widespread in liposuction procedures. In this method, excess fat tissues are broken down using ultrasound waves and then similarly removed with suction.

Liposuction targets unwanted fat accumulations in the body, helping achieve a more contoured appearance. This operation is typically preferred for correcting localized fat accumulations in areas such as the waist, abdomen, hips, and thighs.

Surgery Longevity and Recovery

Following the operation, if an individual does not pay attention to their diet, avoids exercise, and continues habits that increase fat intake, the results may not be permanent. Liposuction solely involves the removal of fat and cannot eliminate fat-producing cells, so the body can regenerate fat over time. The lifelong effects of the operation can vary depending on an individual's lifestyle and habits.

A compression garment should be worn immediately after liposuction surgery. The garment should be worn for 1.5 - 2 months. It may take up to 8 weeks for swelling to subside and body contours to become apparent. Surgical scars typically become faint within 2-6 months.

Post-Operation

Following the surgery, individuals can return to their daily lives.
